Camp Rocki!
Camping and the hospital are two words that aren’t typically used in the same sentence…..until last month!
I have the privilege of being the music therapist for Rocki, a patient in our cardiac unit. One day during Rocki’s music therapy session, she shared stories from her time camping with her family in Maine and mentioned how much she missed going camping. Since Rocki can’t go camping in Maine, we decided to bring the camping to her and named it “Camp Rocki.”
The day began with a hike up to the school room where she had a full morning of school with Teacher Erika who decorated the school room as if they were in the woods.
Once returning back to her room in the afternoon, her room turned into a campsite with a tent, flashlights, blankets, and a popsicle stick campfire. Medical staff took turns coming into the room and sitting around the campfire with Rocki.
We had s'mores, hot chocolate, read ghost stories, sang songs, did arts and crafts and had lots of fun!
This was a day I know none of us will ever forget!
