Matt Logan, MA, MT-BC

Matt is a music therapist who works in hematology, oncology, BMT, and pediatric rehabilitation. He studied at the University of Iowa and completed his internship at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics. He has worked in a variety of settings since 2009, but has been at BCH since 2016.

In addition to music therapy, Matt studied jazz guitar in college. He’s been playing in jazz and rock bands since he was 12 years old, and has owned way too many guitars.

Matt directs the music therapy internship program and leads metrics-based improvement projects for the Child Life Services Department. When not at work, you might find him at a rock show in San Francisco or on a park bench with a book.

Brianna Negrete, MM, MT-BC

Brianna is a music therapist at UCSF Benioff Children's Hospital, San Francisco and works in the Intensive Care Nursery, Cardiac Intensive Care and the Cardiac Transitional Care Units. She attended California State University, Northridge for her undergraduate degree in music therapy and moved to Tallahassee Florida to pursue her music therapy internship at Tallahassee Memorial Hospital. After completing her internship, she stayed in Florida to attend graduate school at Florida State University where she earned her master’s degree in music therapy.

Brianna has worked as a music therapist for over 10 years. For 4 years she was the Coordinator of the National Institute for Infant and Child Medical Music Therapy and was responsible for helping certify and train music therapists from all over the world on how to use music therapy with premature infants. Brianna loves working with families and strives to empower family members to use music to help bond and engage with their child while in the hospital.

Jenny Goldhammer, MA, MT-BC

Jenny is a music therapist working in the Intensive Care, Transitional Care, and Medical/Surgical Units. She received a B.A. in music with a minor in brain and cognitive sciences from the University of Rochester, and her M.A. in Music Therapy from Drexel University. She completed her clinical internship at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia. After graduate school, Jenny worked in the greater Philadelphia area with children and teens in school and camp settings as well as private practice. She joined the UCSF team in 2017.

In addition to her music therapy background, Jenny worked for two non-profits that educated teenagers and families on philanthropy, social justice, and community service. She is excited to continue this work as a co-chair of our department’s Diversity Equity and Inclusion committee. She also attends monthly interdisciplinary ethics meetings and loves to work through challenging issues and questions with her colleagues and students.  

Jenny is a strong believer in person-centered therapy and strives to meet each patient where they are that day through music and play. When not at work, she can be found climbing the many staircases around the Bay Area or reading a book by the water.

I have been with UCSF's Child Life Department since 2006. I came to Child Life Services after a 20-year video production and broadcasting career. Currently, I oversee the technology behind Kaleidoscope - The Child Life Channel. Here is a photo of me in 1990-ish. I started television production when I was 14 years old, and it has been my life's activity.

Madelene Raneses, MT-BC

Madelene is the per diem music therapist working at the Pediatric Infusion Center, Hematology/Oncology Unit, and BMT Unit at UCSF Benioff Children’s Hospital, San Francisco. She received her music therapy degree at the University of the Pacific in Stockton, CA. She completed her clinical internship at UCSF BCH and officially joined as an employee in Spring 2022. Along with playing piano and guitar, Madelene is a classically trained vocalist. She loves to sing all different types of genres, from Italian art songs to the latest R&B hits.

In addition to music therapy, Madelene strives to be actively involved in her Filipino and Filipino-American community through various organizations, attending workshops, and going to community events. She is passionate about creating a space that welcomes all individuals from various backgrounds, both in a professional and personal setting. When she’s not working, you can find Madelene going on food adventures around the city or catching the latest movie at the theater."

Michael Towne, MA, CCLS

Michael Towne is the Manager of Child Life Services at UCSF Benioff Children’s Hospital, San Francisco. Trained as a child life specialist at Mills College, Michael has always harnessed the psychological healing power of creativity in children and teens in the hospital. At first that was working alongside creative arts therapists both with individual patients and in group settings. Now Michael engages his passion in supporting our Creative Arts Team at BCH in San Francisco to go to new heights of healing through creative and expressive opportunities. He is a lover of all the arts and his personal form of expression is his garden in Alameda, CA.
