Earth Day Approaches!
Earth day is April 22, and you better believe we are ready for it. This year, our department is working to become LivingGreen certified at UCSF. That means we are taking a hard look at all of our workspaces and processes to determine how we can reduce waste, use less energy, and save trees.
Would you like to join us in our mission to make our planet healthier? Here are some things artists, musicians, and other creatives can do to help.
Step one, get some inspirational tunes going. Mercy, Mercy Me (The Ecology) by Marvin Gaye is a great place to start.
Recycle and donate. I was surprised to learn that guitar strings are recyclable. As someone who regularly changes strings, things was a gamechanger! As it turns out, there are actually quite a few opportunities for recycling and responsible disposal of music gear. More can be learned from this article: The Environmentally Conscious Guitarist.
Donate extra art supplies and music gear! If you have instruments or supplies collecting dust in the garage, consider donating it to a community art or music school. Or, see if your community has a Buy Nothing group.
Unplug your gear! I get it - as creatives, sometimes we need energy-hungry technology like computers, amplifiers, printers, etc. When not in use, save some energy (and money!) by unplugging machines and chargers from power outlets.
There are so many good ways to be kind to the environment. What changes have you made? Let us know in the comments!
