Zooming Through COVID-19:  Zoom Music Therapy Classes for Infants

I’m Brianna Negrete, one of the music therapists at UCSF and I work in the Intensive Care Nursery (ICN) and in our Cardiac units.  During this time, I have the opportunity to be very creative on how to provide developmental support to our infants.  One way I’ve done this is by holding developmental parent and me music classes in the cardiac units and in the ICN through zoom.  I like to think of it as a baby conference call.  We have had up to 7 babies and their families in a class.  Each class has more and more babies!  This offers a sense of normalcy during a time that is anything but normal and a way for our families to focus on development through music.

There's not a lot we can control during this time and it's changing every day.  Watching the patients, families and staff smile, play, and sing during the zoom music class makes me feel like even on the toughest days, music therapy can make a big impact.

Check out this segment on ABC to see the group in action and the impact it has made in the ICN!
